Noh is one of the oldest theatre art forms that is still regularly performed today, having been established in the 14th century. This workshop will introduce participants to the history and conceptual aspects of this classical Japanese performance tradition by inviting them to explore Noh’s stylized acting, movement language and patterns.

Led by specialist Richard Emmert who has studied, taught and performed all aspects of Noh performance including dance, chant and musical instruments in Japan since 1973. He is a certified Kita school Noh instructor, and is professor of Asian and traditional Japanese performing arts at Musashino University in Tokyo. He also conducts an annual two-week intensive noh workshop in late August called the Noh Training Project UK and held on the noh stage at Royal Holloway, University of London.

This will be a practical, performance based workshop, and is open to actors, directors, dancers and musicians who are interested in developing their knowledge and performance skills. No previous knowledge of Noh is required.

Principles of Drama and Movement in Noh Theatre is free to attend but places are limited. If you are interested in taking part, please send your CV and an expression of interest to reboot@clodensemble.com by Friday 18 May, 10am.
