Moving with Objects

19.SEPTEMBER.2019 • 14:30 - 18:30

Part of Reboot, our artist development programme.

This workshop will explore incorporating objects in dance. Through practical work, we will look at the resonance of objects and materials, and how to make an object or material move in a meaningful way. This workshop is for those with a dance or movement training.

Object work of this kind involves studying the mechanics of movement, starting with the body and externalising and applying it to another form. It involves investigating techniques that enable the shaping of a physical dialogue between performer and object, so that the object is an integral part of the expressive language.

We will look at how objects can provide a point of inspiration for performance making, provide symbolism or metaphor to a piece of work and extend the expressive range of the body. We will work with both fixed form and flexible form objects.

This workshop is led by Rachel Warr. Rachel is a theatre director and dramaturg who specialises in object and puppetry work; she is also trained in various forms of movement. Her work has been performed at venues including The Barbican, Underbelly and Little Angel Theatre. She has led and presented work in France, Canada, Romania, Turkey, Singapore and the Czech Republic. She is a Research Fellow at the V&A Research Institute, Performer in Residence at the Centre for Performance Science and Artistic Director of Dotted Line Theatre.

Moving with Objects is free to attend but places are limited. If you are interested in taking part, please send your CV and an expression of interest to reboot@clodensemble.com by Monday 9 September, 10am.
