The Feast During the Plague - Audio Page

Clod Ensemble’s first production featured a seven-piece group live on stage. All played acoustic instruments – including several sections involving saucepan-percussion.

This extract, captured on two microphones just before rehearsal, is from the only existing recording of this piece. We used these recordings (on a cassette!) in rehearsals whenever the musicians were not in the rehearsals. This is a short passage from the first act of the show – a wordless movement sequence.

Press

“the piece is made by the string and wind orchestra. The rhythms swing from hysteria to ecstasy, abject fear to abandonment, ending on an intractable note of grief. Paul Clark's brilliant score juggles the melodies of Bartok, Schnittke and Warner Brothers cartoons to a surreal, out of time effect.”
