‘Must’ CD

At the core of this recording is the inimitable voice of legendary NYC performer Peggy Shaw. Her spoken word arrives in waves  – sometimes with her trademark biting wit, sometimes in intimate, softly spoken imagery – and takes a poetic look at what it feels like to have a body, using this as the basis for lyrical flights of fancy.

Accompanying Shaw’s words is woven a trio of bass, violin and piano. This back-up band support the text with some stylish playing, moving from jazz struts that soundtrack Shaw’s city soliloquies to more explorative soundscaping.
