Akaky Akakievich is a lowly copying clerk who is teased and looked down upon by his colleagues. His only love is the letters he adoringly copies out day after day, year after year.
One freezing winter he is persuaded to buy a new overcoat from a one-eyed tailor called Petrovich. His life will never be the same again.
