The Red Chair Book (By Sarah Cameron)

£10.00

I’m gonna to tell you a yarn about A Man
Who comen to be so FAT that
The Man growed intil The Chair he was sittin upon,
Or mebbes The Chair growed deep intil The Man

Conveyed in saucy Scots dialect, The Red Chair tells the surreal story of a father who eats and eats until he turns into his chair, a wife doomed to cook his meals and their one ‘inveesible’ daughter.

By turns haunting and humorous, mythic and contemporary, funny and heartfelt, The Red Chair takes us on a journey through a landscape of twisted reason, extreme compulsion and eye-watering complacency. Here, domestic drudgery occurs on an operatic scale and a father’s dereliction of duty reaches epic proportions.

The Red Chair speaks of family and of ancestry, all while conjuring up the wild beauty of the Scottish land and one wee girl’s love song to her troublesome Ma and Pa.

Adapted from Sarah Cameron’s original text by Cameron and Suzy Willson (Artistic Director, Clod Ensemble), The Red Chair was published to coincide with Clod Ensemble’s production of The Red Chair. Clod Ensemble’s production opened at Lancaster’s Live at Lica on 19th February 2015. This was followed by performances at Soho Theatre, London, as well as a UK tour.
